The developer is up front about the program's advantages--it's an easy-to-use newsreader with a Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 interface--and its disadvantages, mostly its lack of "some modern functions." It's Vista-certified, but we tested it successfully in Windows 7.
This program can help users check for the latest versions of software, but it suffers from an unappealing design and other minor flaws. Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 doesn't require installation and you need only to Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 and run its executable file. A plain, outdated interface lists software in the first of three tabs, with columns including name, version information, and publisher's Web site. The second tab, Edit, lets you look up version information for a specific program. The last tab, Help, confusingly refers to the entries as "your programs," but the list didn't accurately reflect our software. The help file then Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 that the list source was WebVersions.txt, a file that comes with the program. You can delete entries but you'll need the version and publisher's Web address to add new software. Also, misspelled Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 such as retreive and de Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 of the make the program seem amateurish. It's too confusing for the novice, and more advanced users will want more than this Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 freeware program offers.

Jumpstart 1st Grade 2000 is free to try for 30 days and works in Windows versions from 95 to Vista and Word versions subsequent to Word 97. It leaves behind folders when it's uninstalled but is otherwise a good team player. It can make short work of major revisions that would take hours with Word's built-in find-and-replace feature, and we recommend it.
